Sir Henry Floyd Grammar School

Young Enterprise

At Sir Henry Floyd we create an environment where students’ entrepreneurial mindset is fuelled and developed. A greater understanding of the world of business with the support from the managing team and our amazing staff.

Young Enterprise is a charity-run organisation that motivates young people to get into business by developing and running a business idea thus becoming entrepreneurs. They work directly with young people, teachers, parents, businesses and influencers to help build a successful and sustainable future for all young people and society at large.

As part of the Young Enterprise project, we as a team of sixth-formers first brainstormed ideas for possible profitable businesses. Once we had established a list, we analysed the benefits and drawbacks of each and how scalable and sustainable each idea was. In the end, we decided that jewellery was the best business for our team. We then found a wholesale distributor of high-quality jewellery from which we placed large orders. We added value to the product by packaging and advertising our jewellery to a new market - our school. This is how we came up with the brand called Platinum.

We’ve gained many skills during this project. Some of these include:

  • Teamwork

  • Confidence

  • Presentation to external buyers via Dragons Den and Meet the Buyers

  • Idea development

  • Stock control

  • Marketing

  • Promotion

  • Finance management

  • Customer service

  • Team management

  • and much more!

Overall we better understood how to start and operate a profitable business with little to no experience in the field. This shows that anyone who puts their mind to something can have a positive outcome if they work hard to achieve their goals.
