Sir Henry Floyd Grammar School

Welcome to the Sixth Form

We are thrilled that you are interested in our Sixth Form. On this page you will find a variety of helpful resources, including our Sixth Form Options Booklet.

Welcome to the SHFGS sixth form. We are a large community of 440 students, a third of whom join us in year 12. We are a place not only for extending subject knowledge and deepening understanding, but a place where students go above and beyond the expected. Our Floydian values nurture a community which is empathetic and brave; we foster belonging and challenge everyone to push boundaries.

We are proud of our student outcomes in the sixth form. A Level results in 2023:

  • 17% of all entries were graded A* (8.6% national average)
  • 47% of all entries were graded A* or A (26.5% national average)
  • 74% of all entries were graded A*-B
  • 62 students gained at least three A grades

64% of our year 13 students are involved in student leadership, either as a subject ambassador or member of the Sixth Form Leadership Team. Students have access to a wide, rich-set of co-curricular and enrichment experiences that teach students why it is important to contribute actively to society. Enrichment includes: the EPQ, academic journal reviews, astrophysics, veterinary science, dentistry and medicine, choir and Young Enterprise to name but a few.

Our students proceed to a wide range of degree courses nationally and internationally, as well as taking up apprenticeships and the world of work. We offer extensive opportunities for high quality, meaningful encounters with the world of work, to build knowledge and skills for future learning. Year 13 destinations:

  • 73% received their firm or insurance place at university
  • 55% are attending Russell group
  • 7 students went to study at Oxford or Cambridge

The online application window to join our sixth form opens in November and closes in February each year via Applicaa: https://sirhenryfloyd.applicaa.com/year12. We also have our annual sixth form Open Evening in November, outlining the process and giving prospective applicants an opportunity to tour the school and meet our community. Further guidance for applying to study A-Levels, including our entry requirements, can be found in our Sixth Form Options Booklet.
